About the performers:
Stephen Poppel has performed in musical theater, orchestra, and chamber groups in Philadelphia, New York City, and Cambridge. For thirty-five years he was a member of the Chamber Music Conference and Composers’ Forum of the East, and is a founding member of the Chatham Chamber Ensemble, a classical woodwind trio. In study and performance he has focused on the chamber repertory for clarinet in combination with winds, strings, voice, and piano. Along with his interest in music, Stephen has pursued careers in both the corporate and the not-for-profit sectors in physics, history, banking, finance, and currently, in financial literacy education and biomedical and social science research ethics.
Natalia Shevchuk studied under the guidance of Nina Kharchenko (first teacher), Natalia Vitte, Igor Ryabov, Ada Krivosheina, and Iya Tsarevich at Kyiv State Conservatory named after P.A. Tchaikowsky (Ukraine). She was among the winners of Rachmaninoff’s piano competition in Kyiv in 1993. Natalia worked for the National Ukrainian Academic Drama Theatre named after Ivan Franko and for the Kyiv Theatre of Historical Portrait founded by Igor Shvedov. She moved to Conway, New Hampshire (USA) to marry Chris Young. In July 2016 Chris and Natalia relocated to New York State where Natalia has taken the position of organist and choir director at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham, NY. She also accompanies at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School in Harlemville, NY.
