COMMUNITY STRING QUARTET...AND PIANO

TUESDAY, AUGUST 4TH 7PM

Four friends gather to share string quartet music. All four are educators in our community. Together they have some 90 years of experience bringing music to student musicians in our seven-town universe. Chris Nourse, violin; Ethan Chalmers, violin; Ellen Schwindt, viola; and Jenny Huang-Dale, cello, comprise the quartet.

The centerpiece of the program is a set of four pieces by American composer Alan Hovhaness. These pieces evoke dreamy contemplation. At one of our rehearsals Chris called them bagatelles from space. Hovhaness wrote of his music that “my purpose is to create music not for snobs, but for all people; music which is beautiful and healing.”

The quartet will play Air by Norman Dello Joio, a prominent Boston-based composer of the 20th century. Pianist (and steward of the wonderful Steinway piano at the Little White Church, Dana Cunningham will join the quartet in a performance of her piece Homecoming. It is a beautiful and restful homage to home. Jenny Huang-Dale will play solo cello works by W. H. Squire and Ralph Vaughn Williams. Ethan will play his own arrangement of a song by Eugene Ysaye. Ellen will accompany them on the piano.

This concert is the third in a series of concerts bringing local talent to the stage of The Little White Church.

Takumi Kato, a world champion Taiko drummer, performs traditional Japanese drumming with his three children.

Takumi was in America at the time of the 9 / 11 attacks, and he decided that he wanted to offer the world something that would promote peace and harmony. The family is now on a journey to encourage peace by presenting 1,000 Peaceful Forest performances across the U.S., with at least one in each state. We are happy to host them here in Eaton, as they share their amazing talents with a New Hampshire audience for the first time. TICKETS  KIDS 14 and UNDER are FREE to attend!

Four-time world champion old-time piano player, Adam Swanson has performed around the world, and in the US, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Selections will include Ragtime, Gershwin, Jazz — music from the Great American Songbook.  TICKETS.
